What if decluttering wasn’t just about your stuff, but about how you feel? This first post in the Lighten Up! 50 Questions to Declutter Your Life series explores one deceptively simple question: “Does this make me feel good when I see or use it?” Learn how tuning into your body’s response can guide you toward clarity, calm, and confidence.

I’m thrilled to share something new — my latest guide,

Lighten UP! 50 Questions to Declutter Your Life

It’s more than a workbook; it’s a roadmap to help you release what’s weighing you down — not just in your home, but in your head and heart, too.

Over the next 50 weeks, I’ll be diving into each question from the guide, one by one. Together, we’ll explore what they mean, how to use them, when they help the most, and why some may resonate differently for each of us. Because clutter isn’t only about stuff — it’s also about the thoughts, emotions, and responsibilities that pile up in our minds.

Does This Make Me Feel Good When I See or Use It?

At first glance, this sounds simple — almost too simple. But this one question can change the way you relate to everything around you.

Every item in your home, every commitment on your calendar, and every thought that circles in your head carries energy. Some lift you up, while others quietly drain you. Asking “Does this make me feel good when I see or use it?” is a way of checking in — not just with your things, but with yourself.

How to Use It

Start small. Open a drawer, scroll your inbox, or look at your calendar. Notice how your body reacts. Do your shoulders relax, or does your stomach tighten? That reaction is information — your intuition speaking up.

This works just as well for mental clutter. Ask yourself: does replaying that conversation, holding onto that guilt, or keeping that old story make me feel good?

When It Helps Most

This question is powerful when you’re feeling overwhelmed or disconnected. It helps you notice what truly supports your peace and what’s simply taking up space — physically or emotionally.

Why It’s Not for Everyone (and That’s Okay)

For some people, this question can feel too emotional or abstract. If you’re more practical, try shifting it to “Do I use this?” or “Does this serve me right now?” What matters isn’t the exact wording — it’s the awareness it brings.

A Thought to Take With You

You deserve to feel good in your own space and in your own mind. If something consistently makes you feel heavy, you have permission to let it go.
