Back to School Isn’t Just for Kids — It’s Time for YOU Too

Back-to-school season isn’t just for kids — it’s your chance for a reset too. I remember the chaos of those early September days when my kids were young: long work hours, endless supply lists, skipped workouts, and late nights. Looking back, I wish I’d slowed down and focused more on what really mattered. The good news? It’s not too late. With what I’ve learned, I want to help you clear the mental and physical clutter, reclaim your time and energy, and step into fall with intention.

Here in New York, our kids go back to school later than most of the country. By the time we’re sharpening pencils and labeling notebooks, friends and family elsewhere have already posted their “first day” photos.

In some ways, that extra time is a gift — a little more summer, a little more breathing room. But I remember when my kids were young, the days leading up to back-to-school still felt like one giant juggling act:

  • Working full-time.

  • Coordinating supply lists, backpacks, and outfits.

  • Trying to get dinner on the table.

  • And squeezing in just enough sleep to function.

  • Filling out those damn blue cards and all the other paperwork the night of the first day of school!

Every year, I put myself on hold because of all the things I thought I needed to do. I slowed down on workouts, skipped meal prep, and sacrificed sleep. And let’s be honest — I did an awful job of easing us back into earlier bedtimes before the first day of school. (Raise your hand if you’ve been there. 🙋‍♀️)

And then there were the “new everything” purchases — new clothes, new sneakers, new backpacks, every single year. Looking back, I wish I’d given myself permission to slow down and let go of the pressure to make it all perfect. My kids didn’t need all new everything. What they needed most was a mom who wasn’t running herself ragged.

What I Know Now

Fast forward to today, and I’ve learned that back to school doesn’t have to mean burnout. The truth is, it’s not too late to do things differently. With what I know now, I want to share some wisdom with you:

  1. Prioritize yourself first. Your routines, sleep, meals, and workouts set the tone for your family. If you’re drained, everything feels harder.

  2. Declutter your expectations. Back-to-school doesn’t need to mean “start fresh with everything.” Use what you already have, and focus on the essentials.

  3. Ease into new schedules the best you can. You don't need to dive into the deep end (unless swimming is your thing.)

  4. Don’t forget YOU. Back to school isn’t just about your kids. It’s the perfect time for your own reset.

Back to School for YOU

And if you don’t have school-aged kids at home anymore? You can still capitalize on the energy of back-to-school season. Think of it as a natural reset button — a chance to get organized, clear your mental and physical clutter, and step into fall with focus.

This season can be your invitation to:

  • Refresh your routines.

  • Recommit to your health and wellness.

  • Reclaim your time and energy.

Because whether you’re packing lunches or packing up old habits, you deserve a fresh start too.

👉 That’s exactly why I’m inviting you to make this back-to-school season about YOU. Clear the clutter, lighten your load, and take back your time and energy.
